The school day
The DfE recommends that secondary school students aged 12 to 16 should be taught for 24 hours per week.
At Scalby School students have 25 lessons per week of one hour each as well as Mentor times. At 8.20 am a bell rings to warn students that they should be present on site and in readiness for period 1 at 8.25 am. A student who arrives in class after the second bell at 8.25 am is marked late and will receive a one hour detention. Students should not arrive on site too early since staff supervision duties do not begin until 8.05 am.
