A student needing medical attention is taken to the Casualty Department at the Hospital
and, if possible, parents are informed. It is essential that parents give us an
alternative contact telephone number and name for occasions when you might not be
available at your home number. It is also important that parents complete a Medical
Consent Form in order that hospital treatment can be given in emergency.
If the
problem is a less serious emergency the students are dealt with by the designated
emergency First Aiders in the medical room. The County Council make no provision
for specialist medical staff in schools and therefore non-emergencies can only be
attended to by class teachers who have access to a first aid kit. If the matter
is one for which the use of a first aid kit is inappropriate, the school will inform
parents and make arrangements to return the student home whenever possible.
Students
who suffer from asthma are asked to carry their inhaler with them at all times.
A spare, labelled inhaler must be given to the Medical Room Staff to keep for use
in an emergency.
Students should not carry medicines around school with them.
These must be left with the Medical Room Staff or at Reception.
