It is the policy of Scalby School to provide a learning environment which is safe
and healthy for students, employees and anyone else using the site.
To this aim
the Governors and the Headteacher (acting as site managers) will pursue their responsibilities
to ensure that the buildings, their contents and the surroundings are kept in a
safe condition for the health and welfare of all employees and that safe working
practices are followed.

Regular inspections are carried out by the recognised County Council Health &
Safety representatives and their report, together with any relevant Health &
Safety matters, are then discussed at the Governors Health & Safety Committee
meeting which follows the inspection.
A copy of the full policy is lodged with each
Head of Faculty, Head of Year and member of the Senior Management Team.

The Headteacher has overall responsibility for the school. Heads of Faculties and
Departments are responsible for their immediate areas of work, for producing a Departmental
Health and Safety policy and for the monitoring of arrangements within their Faculty
or Department.
Problem Record Books are situated in Departmental offices/areas in
order to facilitate the recording, monitoring and resolving of any problems that
occur. Problems can be reported at any time to the Head of Faculty/Department, Caretaker,
Site Manager or Facilities Manager.
All staff have a responsibility to ensure that
they carry out their duties in a safe manner and to this end should be aware of
Health and Safety procedures within Scalby School.

Attention must be paid in particular to the security of students and premises, including
contents, whilst staff and students are in attendance. The importance of ensuring
that the identity of visitors to establishments is known and verified cannot be
over-emphasised. The Education Authority and its representatives in establishments
need to take adequate precautions to prevent any harm coming to students and students.
Visitors must report, in the first instance, to the school office and sign the Visitors’
Book.
All visitors will be issued with a numbered visitor’s badge which must be
worn in a prominent position.
