Joining Scalby School
Moving from primary school to secondary school is a big step for students and a new challenge. Scalby School provides an opportunity for students to build on the good work done in primary schools, learn through new experiences and take advantage of the many opportunities that a larger school can offer. Every effort is made at Scalby School to ensure that every student has a smooth transition so they feel at home from day one at Scalby School in September.
When starting a new school there are many questions which might arise. The frequently asked questions document below will hopefully answer some of the questions that you or your son/daughter may have.
If there are any issues about which you are unclear please do not hesitate to contact
On Thursday 28th June 2018, Scalby School would like to invite all new students to the first of two transition days. Students will take part in a variety of skills based challenges in the morning. In the afternoon students will get the opportunity to take part in an ‘It’s a Knock Out’ tournament on the school field. This day aims at helping new students to forge new friendships with other students who will be joining Scalby in September.
Scalby School Transition Evening on Wednesday 4th July, 7.00pm gives students the opportunity to meet members of their new mentor groups and their new mentors. Also parents are given the opportunity to listen to a talk from the Head Teacher and Heads of English and Mathematics.
The following day, Thursday 5th July, is the Scarborough Area Transfer Day when students spend the whole day in Scalby School, this provides students with the opportunity to experience a typical day at Scalby. New students will be expertly supported by our Year 8 Scalby Buddies.
The first day of the new school year for Year 7 students will begin on Tuesday 4th September 2018 at 8.20am. New students should make their way to the main hall on the first day where their mentors will meet them.
