Learning Support at Keystage 4

Students who require additional support can be provided for in a variety of ways.

 Academic Support

  • Some students may have designated periods of support on their timetable. During these periods they will work under the supervision of the Learning Support staff in one of the support rooms. The main aim of this provision is to provide additional time for identified students to enhance their performance in the GCSE subjects they have chosen, and is particularly suitable for students who might struggle to cope with a full range of exam subjects. Students who would benefit from these arrangements will be guided towards this option.
  • Some students will already have had access to support and guidance from a member of the Learning Support Team during Key Stage 3. They will continue to have access to this facility throughout Key Stage 4.
  • Additional support can also be provided for students needing to improve their level of basic skills in literacy and numeracy.

 Asdan LogoASDAN Awards

  • Within the support option, some students will also have the opportunity to follow an additional course leading to an ASDAN Award.
  • The aims of this course are to enable students:
    • to develop and demonstrate a range of personal, key and employability skills leading to greater personal effectiveness
    • to broaden experience and manage learning through enrichment activities provided via a series of challenges
  • To be eligible for this award, students must work to present a file of evidence illustrating their development in the following six key skill areas, demonstrated to an appropriate level:
    • Working with Others
    • Improving own Learning and Performance
