The school has a Resourced Provision for pupils with hearing difficulties.
Scalby
is the school in the area designated to meet the needs of pupils with physical difficulties
and we currently have 8 pupils in the school of whom 4 are wheelchair reliant.
The
other pupils with special educational needs cover a wide spectrum of need including
Autism, Behaviour and Social difficulties and Specific and General Learning difficulties.
There are 35 pupils with a Statement of Special Educational Needs, 54 pupils at
School Action Plus and 66 pupils at School Action.
|
To support these pupils we have two special needs specialists, a peripatetic teacher
of the deaf who is based in school and works as one of the team, and a literacy
support teacher.
We also have a team of 15 Teaching Assistants and 1 School Based
Additional Teacher to work with the pupils. Each faculty appoints a Link teacher
to liaise with the SEN staff and attend regular meetings.
Teaching Assistants currently
undergo a performance management and personal development programme using a format
similar to the teaching staff.

The department has a suite of four rooms: two used as Support Bases, one as the
resourced provision for pupils with hearing difficulties and an office.
There is
also a separate Physiotherapy room and two disabled toilets.
The school is approximately
85% accessible for wheelchairs with a further lift planned to provide 100% access.

We have links with several special schools:
Woodlands
is a special school for moderate
learning difficulties and we have 12 pupils who attend school from their Autistic
Unit for part of each week. There is also a group of 10 KS4 pupils who have joined
in the Science Plus examination course.
Springhead
is a special school for profound
and multiple learning difficulties and we have a group coming into school to take
part in aspects of our curriculum. One pupil has recently moved from a dual placement
to a full time place at Scalby School.
Brompton Hall
is a special school for emotional
and behavioural difficulties and in the past pupils have been reintroduced into
the mainstream from there.
