 The GCSE in Health
and Social Care is a double award course that leads to two GCSE grades. That is
why it counts for two option
choices.
It is an ideal qualification for those students who want to understand the rapid
growing Health and Social Care sector. This would be the ideal course for you if you have thoughts of working in Health or Social Care. After completing the course
you will be able to make sound choices about progressing into a career in these two areas. The qualification could also support an application for training for
nursing, occupational therapy, physiotherapy, social work, childcare etc.
To help you understand the world of Health and Social Care you will actively experience
health, social care and early years occupations.
This is achieved through meeting
with practitioners
from the local sector in the classroom, on visits and through
work placements.
You will study three units:
- Health Social Care and Early Years Provision
- Promoting Health and Well-Being
- Understanding Personal Development and Relationships
Assessment:
Two-thirds of the units are assessed by means of a portfolio containing
coursework completed during the two year course. There is one 90 minute examination.
To be successful you need to have an interest in having a career in Health and Social
Care. A caring personality will also be needed to secure employment in this sector.
You also need to be well-organised and committed, so as to complete all the coursework
because it counts for a high percentage of the final grade.
