History

Summer Term

Please spend the next few weeks researching the Industrial Revolution. You can use the following link to learn about the key changes in this period
https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/guides/zvmv4wx/revision/1

You can then attempt some of the tasks in the following folder: Click Here

The history department would also like Year 7 and 8 to take this opportunity to research some wider world history. Take a look at what was happening all over the world at the same time as some of the periods you have been studying. See how many of the ‘meanwhile elsewhere’ tasks you can complete over the next few weeks. Simply use the questions on the sheet and the ‘useful links’ to help you research some of the most significant events and people in history.
Meanwhile, elsewhere

Engineering

Year 7/8 Engineering (Technology).

The following website has many useful resources and worksheets to try for a range of topic areas – www.technologystudent.com

Areas to look at.

Interactive apps covering a range of topic areas – http://www.technologystudent.com/despro_flsh/mobapp3.html http://www.technologystudent.com/despro_flsh/mobapp2.html

Tasks to complete-

1) Research and test yourself on the words linking to how we describe the properties (what they are like) of the materials we use to design and make products. You should be finding the meanings for these words – Strength, elasticity, plasticity, ductility, tensile strength, malleability, toughness, hardness, conductivity, absorbency, density and fusibility.

2) Find examples of types of materials for the following material categories – timber, polymers (plastics), metals, smart materials, modern materials, composite materials. An example would be that you can have ferrous metals that contain iron and non ferrous metals that do not contain iron. Types of ferrous metals include steel and iron. This will help you learn about the different materials you can select to design and make products and what they are like for their properties.

3) Using http://www.technologystudent.com/despro_flsh/mobapp2.html

Find the materials – woods, metals and plastics section in the list of topics. Complete the smart learning sheets for these by opening the link. When you open the pdf document for the smart learning sheet, if you click the answers link on the top left corner (next to the image of the mobile phone) it will take you directly to the page with the answers on.
