Key Stage 3

The emphasis in Years 7 & 8 is on gaining valuable experience in performing, composing and listening to a range of music in different genres, styles and traditions. Music at KS3 will engage and inspire students to develop a love of music and increase self-confidence, creativity and sense of achievement.

Year 7

Students in Year 7 will have one hour of Music per week and the topics they study include Soundscapes, Keyboard Work, Ukulele, Re-Mixing and African Drumming.

Year 8

Students in Year 8 will have one hour of Music per week and the topics they study include Film Music, Keyboard Work, Sampling, Song writing and Samba.

Key Stage 4

The aims for Music at KS4 are similar to KS3, however they are encouraged to become more independent practitioners. Students will discover new approaches to performing, composing and develop a clear understanding of how Music has evolved and how it is important in different cultures.

Extra Curricular Activities

In Music we have two musical ensembles running afterschool, a vocal group and music club, which allows students to come along and perform, compose and develop their musical talents. In addition to this we also offer instrumental lessons, which run during the school day on various days. These include: Guitar, Bass, Keyboard, Drums, Strings, Woodwind, Brass and Singing lessons. Some of these are delivered privately and by the Music Service.
