An annual check is made with parents to ascertain whether they wish their child
to go home for lunch or stay at school. Any change after that must be made via a
letter from parents. It is not possible for students to stay on some days and go
home on others.
Students who take lunch at school must remain on the premises for the entire lunch
period. In an emergency, however, a student will be granted permission to leave,
by either the Head of Year or one of the Senior Staff on production of a parental
note. If permission is given, the signing out procedure should be followed.
All teacher supervision at lunchtime is on a voluntary basis and one duty teacher
is responsible for the oversight of students as they enter the Dining Hall. In addition,
there are Senior Teachers aided by Heads of Year on patrol throughout the lunchtime
and all these members of staff reinforce the work of the Supervisory Assistants
whose brief it is to patrol the school grounds to ensure that good order prevails
and that accidents are prevented.
Except in wet weather students are not allowed in classroom during lunchtime unless
directly supervised by a member of staff. Rooms will be labelled in the following
manner to indicate their use.
If a student regularly abuses the system at lunchtime and creates problems, the
Head of School will make arrangements for the individual to be put in lunchtime
withdrawal or sent off the premises between 12.20 pm and 1.10 pm.
