 Information
and Communication Technology (ICT) is integrated throughout the curriculum, with
pupils developing word-processing, desktop publishing, spreadsheet, database, graphical
and information handling skills in the context of their day-to-day work in the various
subjects.
ICT at Scalby School is always changing and is taught differently every year in
order to keep up with the changing world of Information and Communications Technology.
In ICT pupils will use their computer in as creative a way as
possible, using up to date hardware and software. Students will be producing computer graphics, multimedia presentations, cartoon animations,
scanning images, distorting your digitized pictures and even composing your own
computer music. Students will of course use the essential Desk Top Publishing, database,
spreadsheet and word processing programs.
Information and
Communication Technology provides an excellent grounding in computer application skills.
These skills will also be useful for other courses at college or university or for
everyday work. ICT develops transferable skills and encourages problem solving. It influences artistic,
business, creative, cultural, educational, industrial and social activity. Students
are encouraged to take control of their learning and exercise ownership over the
data they create and manipulate.
Homework is generally the paper-based preparation, designing and planning of school
computer focused activities.
The Computer is an integral and vital part of Information Technology and each pupil
has access to a Computer throughout there time at Scalby School. A home PC is not
required but pupils are encouraged to make use of this facility if it is available.
