During Year
10 and 11 you will study for two GCSEs. You can opt to study either English and
Literature or English and Media. In each case, both sets of subjects will be studied
as part of a combined course and you will continue to develop your skills in speaking
and listening, reading and writing.
English and Literature
There are 5 pieces of coursework to be completed for this combination of subjects,
and these will be done during Year 10. They are:
- Original Writing
- Media
- Post-1914 Drama
- Pre-1914 Prose
- Shakespeare
During Y11 your time will be spent preparing for your final GCSE examinations. This
will include the study of a post-1914 novel, poetry from different cultures, pre-
and post-1914 poetry, and examination techniques.
English
and Media
There are 7 pieces of coursework to be completed for this combination of subjects.
These are:
- Original Writing
- Media Writing
- Shakespeare
- Pre-1914 Prose
- 3 x media assignments
In addition, there is a practical production task for media. As well as completing
coursework, you will also prepare for your examinations. In English this will include
the study of poetry from different cultures, non-fiction, writing for different
purposes, and examination techniques.
