 What
is the qualification?
The BTEC Firsts in Art and Design focuses on developing knowledge, skills and understanding
of the working world within the wide context of the creative arts sector. It is
a practical, work related course, whereby you learn by completing projects and assignments
that are based on realistic workplace situations, activities and demands.
The BTEC First Certificate is equivalent to 2 GCES’s Grade A-C and the BTEC First
Diploma equivalent to 4 GCSE’s Grade A-C. As there are no awards from Grade D to
G the course is suitable to those students who are well motivated and show an aptitude
in Art and Design. What is the course structure?

* The Vocational
connections are when students learn to have a critical understanding about the historical
and current value of artists and designers and will learn to analyse what they have
discovered.
How is the course assessed?
Each unit is assessed as a pass, merit or distinction. For BTEC First Certificate
all 3 units must be passed to achieve the award. For BTEC First Diploma each student
must achieve at least a pass on 5 units.
What can I do at the end of the course?
With further training or study, students go into careers including: Advertising,
Marketing, Graphic Design, Fabric/Textile Design, Interior Design, Crafts Sector,
Photography, Graphic Illustration, etc..
