Scalby Learning Trust has commemorated the Armistice Centenary this November with an art project inspired by the Tower of London poppy installation from 2014. Now that the Great War has passed out of living memory, it is more important than ever to remember and reflect upon the sacrifice made by the armed forces. Staff and students from Scalby and Newby have been given the opportunity to participate in an act of remembrance by making a ceramic poppy which has become part of a thousand strong display at the front of school. Many students have also researched family members that have served in the armed forces. It has been wonderful to see students learn about Grandparents and Great Grandparents and their role in the two World Wars. Some stories have been very moving and emotional and it has been a privilege to share them.
